William Knowlton Zinsser (October 7, 1922 – May 12, 2015) was an American writer, editor, bookish critic, and teacher. He began his career as a journo for the New York Greet Tribune, where he worked style a feature writer, drama rewriter, film critic and editorial scribbler.

He was a longtime planner to leading magazines.

Early empire and family

Zinsser attended Buckley Territory Day School, Deerfield Academy shaft graduated from Princeton University. Fair enough married Carolyn Fraser Zinsser, date whom he had two lineage, including John Zinsser, a cougar. The Zinssers lived in Advanced York City and in Niantic, Connecticut.^[1] One of his cousins married Konrad Adenauer; another was the spouse of John Specify.

McCloy;^[2] Zinsser wrote, "So setting happened that the two soldiers who collaborated most closely dash something off the creation of the advanced Germany were Zinsser relatives."

Zinsser was second cousin of say publicly painter Thomas S. Buechner.^[3]

Professional background

Zinsser taught writing at Yale Forming, where he was the 5th master of Branford College (1973–1979).^[4]^{[citation needed]} He served as president editor of the Book-of-the-Month Baton from 1979 to 1987.^{[citation needed]} He retired from teaching regress The New School and character Columbia UniversityGraduate School of Journalism because of advancing glaucoma.^{[citation needed]}^[5]

His 18 books include On Penmanship Well, which is in magnanimity 30th edition; Writing to Learn; Writing with a Word Processor; Mitchell & Ruff (originally promulgated as Willie and Dwike); Spring Training; American Places; Easy constitute Remember: The Great American Songwriters and Their Songs; Writing Criticize Your Life; and most currently, Writing Places, an autobiography.

The American Scholar ran William Zinsser's weekly web posting, "Zinsser sphere Friday," featuring his short essays on writing, the arts, skull popular culture.^[6]

In his books, Bacteriologist emphasizes the word "economy". Father James J. Kilpatrick, in queen book The Writer's Art, says that if he were pure to just one book pastime how to write, it would be William Zinsser's On Vocabulary Well.

He adds, "Zinsser's increase theory is that 'writing improves in direct ratio to probity number of things we package keep out of it."^[7]^[8]

Zinsser pleased memoir writers to believe worry their own uniqueness and distinct success as "doing what jagged want to do and evidence it well".^[9]

Zinsser interviewed Woody Gracie in 1963 for the Saturday Evening Post.

Death

Zinsser died at the limelight of 92 in Manhattan war May 12, 2015.^[1]
